Tauranga Heritage Collection
Treasures from the Western Bay of Plenty
Ngaa Taonga tuku iho o Tauranga Moana
The Tauranga Heritage Collection is rich with local significance and includes objects of national importance. It represents a substantial amount of support from the local community over many years with the donation of family treasures and thousands of volunteer hours.
The Tauranga Heritage Collection, which numbers approximately 30 000 objects, has been built up over the last 40 years. First displayed in a museum on Hamilton Street it became one of the main attractions at the Tauranga Historic Village and District Museum. In 1998 the Historic Village closed and the collection was placed into storage.
